Did you know that Arctic Monkeys were one of the first acts to come to the public attention via the Internet?

Arctic Monkeys were heralded as one of the first acts to come to the public attention via the Internet (fan-based sites rather than from the band), with commentators suggesting they represented the possibility of a change in the way in which new bands are promoted and marketed. The band eventually signed to the independent record label Domino Records.

Arctic Monkeys are an English alternative rock band from High Green, a suburb of Sheffield. Formed in 2002, the band currently consists of Alex Turner (lead vocals, guitar), Jamie Cook (guitar), Nick O'Malley (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Matt Helders (drums, backing vocals).

The band was criticized as "money-grabbing" and "cashing in on their success" when their EP "Who the Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys" was released. The band countered the criticism by saying that they regularly release new music not to make money, but to avoid the "boredom" of "spending three years touring on one album".  With the huge success that Arctic Monkeys achieved, they were awarded with a Guinness World Record for the Fastest Selling UK Debut Album with "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I Am Not," selling  363,735 copies in its first week and 113,000 on its first day (September 2006). This album was also the second fastest selling for a Debut Indie Album in the US in 2006. Arctic Monkeys s fans used the internet to create fan-based sites to express their thoughts and emotions on how well they love and appreciate the band's songs and the people behind it. That's why this band was heralded as the first acts to come to the public attention via the Internet.

Arctic Monkeys guitarist Jamie Cook has expressed optimism at the potential for a 2014 Australian tour during a recent interview. Cook discussed the band’s current plans and assured fans “don’t worry, we’ll definitely be down there, hopefully when it’s warm.”

The band’s upcoming fifth studio album, AM is slated for a 6th September Australian release, but Cook reassured fans that they’re keeping Australia in mind for any potential live shows, saying:

“It’s one of our favourite places to come and I’m not just saying that. Any excuse to tread down there and do some gigs. But hopefully next year some time.”

Did you know that Keith Urban enjoys writing songs in the shower?

Keith Urban, a singer, songwriter, and a guitarist loves and enjoys writing songs in the shower. He at least comes up with ideas while getting sudsy, but maybe he used to write lyrics into the steam on the shower doors --who knows?

More recently, he's taken to writing in a natural light-flooded room downstairs in the home that Keith and Nicole Kidman own in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee. It's an old farmhouse that inspires the father of two's creativity in his 40's. The singer always writes in pen - never pencil, and never on a computer. "I can't type fast enough," he says.

Keith Lionel Urban (born 26 October 1967) is a New Zealand-born and Australian-raised country music singer, songwriter, and guitarist. When he was 2 years old, his parents moved the family to Caboolture, Queensland, Australia, where his career eventually began. He decided he wanted a music career at a young age, and learned how to play the guitar at the age of six.

While working on the album, Urban maintained a disciplined morning routine. "My wife and I like to wake up really early-even before Sunday was born-at 5 or 6. I'll have a cup of coffee, work out and then, when the endorphins are going, I like to start writing," Urban says. Song writing is much more effective for Keith in the shower because he can come up with great ideas of lyrics and enjoys doing it.

Urban’s reputation as a songwriter, musician, vocalist and virtuoso guitarist is no more evident than when he is onstage. His electrifying concerts have played to sold-out venues from Australia to Germany, England to Canada and the United States. In fact, 2009’s Escape Together World Tour, as well as 2007’s Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy World Tour, were both, one of the top grossing tours for their respective years. As one journalist put it, “Urban is one of the best reasons in the world to attend a live concert.”

2013 is poised to be another spectacular year for Urban, who has already celebrated the success of a sold-out Australian Arena tour and received his first Golden Globe Award nomination for his song “For You”, his initial foray writing specifically for a motion picture. A performance with the Rolling Stones and at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Concerts, combined with Urban’s 4th annual “All 4 The Hall Benefit Concert” performing alongside “Rebels and Renegades” Willie Nelson, Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, Kris Kristofferson, Vince Gill, Tim McGraw and Eric Church, amongst others, has further solidified the respect that Urban has received as a musician and player.

Keith Urban Quote about Songwriting:

"Songs are like children in that you have your differences like the brainy one & the delinquent one, but you love them all the same."

Did you know that Rihanna's song "Unfaithful" was based on a relationship Rihanna had when she was 14 years old?

Rihanna's song "Unfaithful", is a slow ballad very different from Rihanna's earlier work, addresses the feelings of guilt a girl faces as she cheats on her boyfriend. She said in the interviews that not only do men cheat, women cheat also. "Unfaithful" is all about a girl cheating on her boyfriend which was based on Rihanna's relationship when she was 14 years old.

In an interview, Rihanna said about the lyrics, "I'm referred to as a murderer in that song. Meaning, I'm taking this guy's life by hurting him, cheating on him. He knows, and it makes him feel so bad." She continued, "We always put it out there that guys cheat, and finally someone put it in perspective: girls cheat too."

In another interview for NewsDay, she said that "Unfaithful" was birthed out of a relationship she outgrew when she was fourteen. She added that the nature of the relationship was not physical.

The song was written by Shaffer "Ne-Yo" Smith with the song's producers StarGate. The song was originally titled "Murderer" and is about a woman who regrets cheating on her partner. "Unfaithful" is a pop ballad that contains prominent R&B elements, and was inspired by the works of American rock band Evanescence.

"Unfaithful" received a mixed response from critics; many praised its powerful balladry, but some criticized the lyrics. However got positive responses from most music critics.

Kelefa Sanneh from The New York Times described "Unfaithful" as "a profoundly ludicrous – but not disagreeable – pop lament"

Quentin B. Huff from PopMatters commented that, "'Unfaithful' is a well-intentioned ballad informed by dramatic piano and strings"

Slant Magazine's Sal Cinquemani stated, "The melodramatic, string-laden ballad 'Unfaithful' is, if nothing else, an ambitious second single for an artist like Rihanna, and with lyrics like 'I don't want to be a murderer/Our love, his trust/I might as well take a gun and put it to his head,' it earns bonus points just for being so fucking weird"

Steve Jones of USA Today wrote that while the other ballads on the album were not as strong, "'Unfaithful', in which Rihanna deals with the "consequences of her own cheating heart, shows depth".

Celia San Miguel from Vibe magazine praised "Unfaithful", stating that it gives Rihanna a "new found charisma, solid vocal range and her ability to channel deep-rooted emotions with ease"

Dan Charnas from The Washington Post described the single as "an honest account of dishonesty".

Since its release, "Unfaithful" has been a staple of Rihanna's performances.

Did you know that Katy Perry really kissed a girl and liked it?

On an interview for The New Gay, Katy Perry was asked about her song "I Kissed a Girl".

"Have I ever kissed a girl? Of course I have. I can't sing a song and not have done it. That'd be complete hypocrisy. I fancy Scarlett Johansson,Natalie Portman and Angelina Jolie - I'd definitely kiss them."

This song became a controversy when Katy decided to do image transformation from a Contemporary Christian music artist to one of the "girls gone wild." Katy Perry was born in California, the middle child of a pastor parents - Raised in a deeply religious family, Perry's first experience of performing was singing in church. A passion for music grew and at the age of 15 Perry began visiting Nashville, gaining experience of song writing and recording demos.

"The song was inspired by a friendship I had with a girl when I was 15, and I did kiss her. I was totally obsessed with her. She was beautiful - porcelain skin, perfect lips - and I still talk to her, but I've never told her the song is about her."

"I Kissed a Girl" was inspired when I opened up a magazine and I saw a picture of Scarlett Johansson. I was with my boyfriend at the time, and I said to him, 'I'm not going to lie: If Scarlett Johansson walked into the room and wanted to make out with me, I would make out with her. I hope you're okay with that?"

"The number one issue for me is equal rights, whether it's being able to be equal in love, and being treated equally whether you have ovaries or not."

"I Kissed a Girl" debuted at number seventy six at Billboard Hot 100. After a couple of weeks, the single hit the top five, due to the rising digital downloads and increasing radio airplay. It continued to rise the next week, reaching number two, just behind her label mates, Coldplay. The following week, the song peaked at the summit of the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the 1000th number one song of the rock era (the 961st number one single on the Billboard Hot 100).

In Australia, the song debuted at number thirty on downloads alone. The next week, it jumped to number two, still on downloads alone. It later jumped to number one still solely off downloads, becoming only the second single to do so. Ironically, by the time the song topped the chart, this was the time when World Youth Day 2008 had started and the event held anti-gay views. On July 21, 2008, after the singles physical release, the track retained its number one position and was certified Gold. The single has held the number one position for several weeks and was certified 2× Platinum.

According to Perry, the song became a massive hit because musically the song is catchy. "I think that it's one of those subject matters that is, you know, like 'Oh my God I can't believe she said that, that someone came out and said it'. I think that, whenever anyone writes something that is different than, like, your plain peanut butter and jelly song, 'I love you, you love me', everyone kind of perks up and says 'what's this?'."

Now, She's got jungle fever! Katy Perry is giving fans a glimpse of the making of her upcoming music video for "Roar."

The behind-the-scenes look at the jungle-themed setup shows the brunette singer playing around with monkeys and other wild animals. Perry rocks two sexy outfits in the clip: one cut-up shirt dress and the other a skirt made of leaves with a leopard-print bikini top.

"We are shooting with some very well-trained, very well-mannered animals," she explained. "One monkey is named Ripley, believe it or not!" Beauty and a sense of humor, gotta love that!

"Roar" is the first single off of her forthcoming album Prism. She opted to share the title of her album and its release date in an out-of-the-box way—a golden way, if you will.

John Mayer's leading lady arranged for an enormous gold big rig to drive the streets of Los Angeles earlier today, with the large words "Katy Perry, Prism, 10.22.13" written across.

The countdown has begun.
